Mac Demarco Covers "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

Since Mac Demarco emerged from Vancouver's underground music scene, a holiday tradition has developed amongst Demarco’s steadfast audience. The Canadian-born thirty-year-old (he was actually born in Duncan, for all the Vancouver Island folks!) started releasing Christmas covers with his former band Makeout Videotape back in 2009. He has since released a new Christmas cover each year, putting a unique spin on the classic's through his self-proclaimed “jizz jazz” experience. The lo-fi holiday songs are a bit of a well-kept secret that only true Demarco fans have sniffed out, as he drops the cover’s unannounced on his Youtube channel.

A Mac Demarco music video is incomplete without some bizarre visual concept. In 2015, he blessed fans with his chilled-out take on “White Christmas”, and the entire music video is two-minutes-and-thirty-five-seconds of a Santa-hat-clad Jar Jar Binks. This year, Mac released his version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” on December 20th, equipped with his signature vintage synth sound and chorused guitar tones. The music video features Demarco vibing on the side of the California highway with a giant inflatable Santa Claud for just over three minutes. If that won’t put a smile on your face, I don’t know what will!

Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year!
